In a major milestone for India’s clean energy sector, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has added over 5 GW (5,051 MW) of renewable energy capacity during FY 2025–26, taking its total operational portfolio to 19.3 GW. The company stated that this represents the largest greenfield annual capacity addition globally by any company, excluding China.

The newly commissioned capacity includes 3.4 GW of solar, 686 MW of wind, and 956 MW of wind-solar hybrid projects. These additions are expected to offset approximately 10 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. With a total installed capacity of 19.3 GW, AGEL’s portfolio is projected to deliver an annual carbon offset of around 36 million tonnes.

A significant portion of the capacity was added at the company’s mega renewable energy project in Khavda, which is being developed on a large scale across 538 square kilometres. The site, one of the world’s largest renewable energy installations, has already achieved a cumulative installed capacity of 9.4 GW, out of a planned 30 GW by 2029.

According to Sagar Adani, the addition of over 5 GW marks a significant step in accelerating India’s transition to a low-carbon economy while strengthening energy security. The company is targeting a total capacity of 50 GW by 2030.

In addition to generation capacity, AGEL has also commissioned an initial 1,376 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at the Khavda site. The deployment, completed within eight months, is among the largest single-location energy storage installations globally and is expected to enhance grid stability and renewable energy integration.

The Khavda project incorporates advanced technologies, including bifacial solar modules that capture sunlight from both sides, solar tracking systems to optimise generation, and high-capacity 5.2 MW wind turbines. The project also uses waterless robotic cleaning systems, significantly reducing water consumption while improving operational efficiency.

AGEL continues to strengthen its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. The company was ranked first in the Global Top 100 Green Utilities list for 2025 by Energy Intelligence and retained its position as India’s top sustainability performer in the power sector for the second consecutive year, according to NSE Sustainability Ratings and Analytics.
