Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal has underlined the importance of adopting a balanced โenergy mixโ strategy to meet Indiaโs growing long-term electricity demand, urging Rajasthan to speed up both renewable and conventional power projects.
During a review meeting with senior officials from the stateโs energy department and power utilities, Agarwal highlighted that combining renewable sources like solar with conventional power generation would ensure a more reliable and efficient supply system. He noted that while Rajasthan has made notable progress in decentralized solar installations under the PM-KUSUM scheme, challenges remain in integrating this power smoothly into the grid.
The Secretary stressed the need to enhance grid stability and called for the timely development of battery energy storage systems. These systems, he said, are critical for maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply, especially during peak demand periods when renewable generation may fluctuate.
The meeting also covered key operational areas, including the provision of daytime electricity to the agriculture sector across 24 districts, efforts to reduce transmission and distribution losses, and the ongoing rollout of smart metering systems. Resource adequacy planning was another focus area to ensure future demand is met efficiently.
Officials reported that Rajasthan has already installed around 3,800 MW of capacity under the PM-KUSUM scheme. Discussions also emphasized expanding transmission infrastructure and strengthening connectivity for renewable energy projects.
Representatives from central agencies, including the Rural Electrification Corporation, along with state officials, participated in the meeting, reflecting a coordinated approach to addressing the stateโs evolving energy needs.
