In this exclusive interaction, Mr. Hasan Alkarawi, Regional Manager at Gokin Solar, shares insights into the companyโs rapid growth in the Middle East, its advanced TOPCon technology, and its long-term vision for delivering resilient, high-efficiency solar solutions in some of the worldโs most demanding environments.
1. Can you provide an overview of Gokin Solarโs growth and strategic priorities in the Middle East market?
Gokin Solar has experienced strong and consistent growth across the Middle East, largely driven by the regionโs ambitious renewable energy targets and its natural advantage of high solar irradiance. Governments and private sector stakeholders are actively accelerating solar deployment, creating a dynamic and opportunity-rich environment.
Our strategy is built around three core pillars. First, we are focused on building long-term, trust-based partnerships with EPC companies, distributors, and project developers across key markets such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. These relationships are essential for sustainable growth and local market alignment.
Second, we are investing in establishing a regional logistics and service hub. This will allow us to significantly improve delivery timelines while ensuring responsive technical support and after-sales service, which are critical factors for project success in this region.
Third, we are continuously tailoring our product portfolio to meet the specific climatic and regulatory requirements of the Middle East. This includes ensuring our modules are certified and optimized for harsh desert conditions, enabling reliable performance over the long term.
2. What are the key features and technological advantages of your GK-2-66HTBD 700M TOPCON module?
The GK-2-66HTBD700M is one of our flagship TOPCon modules and represents the culmination of our focus on high efficiency, durability, and performance optimization.
At its core, the module delivers a high power output of up to 700W, enabled by advanced TOPCon cell technology with passivating contacts that effectively reduce recombination losses and improve overall efficiency.
The bifacial design is another key advantage. By capturing reflected light from the groundโalso known as albedoโthe module can generate up to 30% additional energy yield depending on installation conditions, making it particularly valuable for utility-scale projects in high-reflectivity environments.
Reliability is equally important. The module offers very low degradation rates, with first-year degradation limited to โค1% and linear degradation of โค0.4% annually. This is supported by enhanced resistance to UV exposure and potential-induced degradation (PID), ensuring long-term performance stability.
In high-temperature environments like the Middle East, thermal performance is critical. With a temperature coefficient of around -0.30%/ยฐC, the module maintains strong efficiency even under extreme heat.
Additionally, the module is rigorously tested for durability against sand, salt mist, and hail, making it highly suitable for desert, coastal, and industrial applications.
3. How is Gokin Solar addressing the unique climatic and operational challenges of solar projects in the GCC and Levant regions?
Operating in the GCC and Levant regions presents unique environmental challenges, and at Gokin Solar, we address these through both advanced product engineering and robust service support.
To handle high temperatures and significant thermal cycling between day and night, our modules incorporate low thermal expansion materials and optimized soldering techniques. This ensures structural stability and minimizes stress over time.
Sand and dust accumulation is another major concern, as it can significantly impact energy yield. To mitigate this, we use anti-soiling coatings on the module glass, which reduce dust adhesion and help maintain higher efficiency between cleaning cycles.
For coastal and high-humidity environments, corrosion resistance is essential. Our modules feature double-sealed junction boxes with IP68 ratings and frames designed to withstand harsh conditions, having successfully passed IEC 61701 salt mist corrosion tests. These design elements ensure long-term reliability even in challenging environments.
4. What are your expansion plans and long-term vision for Gokin Solar in the Middle East Solar energy landscape?
Looking ahead, the Middle East remains a key strategic market for Gokin Solar, and we have ambitious plans for expansion.
In terms of pipeline growth, we are targeting module supply of approximately 1.5 GW in 2026, with plans to scale this to 4 GW by 2028. This growth will be supported by our expanding regional presence and strengthened partnerships.
We are also working toward establishing an innovation-driven ecosystem in the region. This includes collaborating with local universities and research institutions to develop solar solutions specifically optimized for desert environments. Areas of focus include bifacial tracking integration and advanced soiling-loss prediction models to further enhance system performance. Our long-term vision is clearโto become the preferred TOPCon module partner for both utility-scale and commercial & industrial projects across the Middle East. We aim to be recognized not only for high-performance products, but also for reliability, strong local support, and the ability to deliver the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) in some of the worldโs most demanding climates.
