Angola has taken a major step toward clean energy development with the official commissioning of a large solar and battery storage project in Luau, located in the Moxico province. The project marks an important achievement for the country as Luau has now fully shifted from diesel-generated electricity to a clean and renewable off-grid solar power system. The facility is currently considered the largest solar and battery storage installation of its kind in Angola and reflects the governmentโs growing focus on sustainable energy solutions.
For many years, remote regions in Angola depended heavily on diesel generators for electricity supply. These systems were expensive to operate and maintain, while fuel shortages often disrupted power availability. The situation created challenges for local communities, businesses, schools, and healthcare centers that relied on stable electricity for daily operations.
