Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen has officially taken over as Executive Vice President and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy starting 1 May 2026. With this appointment, he also becomes part of the company’s Leadership Team. His selection comes after a broad international search, signalling European Energy’s commitment to expanding its Power-to-X activities and advancing more projects from development into full execution and commercial operation.
According to CEO Knud Erik Andersen, the decision to choose an internal leader for this position reflects both the strength of European Energy’s talent pool and its strong global position in Power-to-X. Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen has already been closely involved in shaping the company’s work in this area, including his role as CEO of the joint venture with Mitsui & Co. Ltd. In that capacity, he oversaw the development and delivery of the Kassø Power-to-X facility in Denmark.
The Kassø project is European Energy’s most significant Power-to-X facility so far. It has been developed under demanding conditions, tight timelines, and as a complex first-of-its-kind initiative. Despite unexpected challenges along the way, the project maintained high quality standards and met expectations for both customers and partners.
As European Energy’s portfolio of technologies and projects continues to grow—ranging from e-methanol and hydrogen to biobased solutions—the company is entering a stage where commercial structures, partnerships, and long-term value creation will play a more central role. Rene Frederiksen emphasized that Power-to-X projects must be built with clear commercial outcomes, combining strong technology with reliable revenue models and partnerships capable of supporting long-term success.
To strengthen this next phase of development, Torben Nørgaard has joined European Energy as Vice President, Head of Partnerships and Offtake for Power-to-X. He will lead work related to offtake agreements and partnerships, helping define commercial models for different technologies and projects.
His responsibilities include building strategic relationships, structuring commercial agreements, and supporting financial frameworks throughout each project phase.Torben Nørgaard brings extensive experience from Topsoe, A.P. Moller – Maersk, and the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. His background combines technical knowledge with hands-on experience in commercial arrangements and partnerships across multiple sectors involved in the energy transition.
European Energy also notes that the broader Power-to-X market is evolving in a positive direction. Clearer regulatory frameworks across Europe, along with recent progress in Germany related to RFNBO fuels, are helping increase demand and accelerate market maturity.
