Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has commissioned the first commercial rooftop solar project in the Union Territory of Ladakh with a 50 kWp installation at Hotel Barath in Leh, marking a significant milestone in the region’s clean energy transition and sustainable tourism development.

The rooftop solar project was implemented in collaboration with channel partner Silk Route Energy and inaugurated by Rudra Goud P.T.. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ladakh Power Development Department, industry stakeholders, and representatives from hospitality and trade associations across the region.

Developed over the past five years, the project is being positioned as a model for renewable energy adoption in Ladakh’s commercial sector, particularly within the hospitality industry. The initiative demonstrates the increasing viability of rooftop solar systems in high-altitude regions, supported by financing mechanisms including MSME-linked loan facilities that are expected to improve accessibility for local businesses.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has also partnered with the All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association to promote awareness and accelerate rooftop solar adoption across hotels and guest houses, with several additional projects already under development.

Industry experts note that integrating solar power into Ladakh’s tourism infrastructure could significantly reduce energy costs, improve energy reliability, and support the region’s ambition to position itself as a sustainable tourism destination. The initiative also aligns with Ladakh’s broader objective of becoming a carbon-neutral region through increased deployment of renewable energy technologies.

The project further strengthens Tata Power Renewable Energy’s presence in India’s distributed renewable energy market and reflects growing momentum for rooftop solar adoption in remote and environmentally sensitive regions.
