Shri V. Packirisamy Appointed as Director of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC)

The Government of India has appointed V. Packirisamy as Director (Commercial) at Power Finance Corporation (PFC), effective June 2, 2026. Prior to his elevation, he served as Executive Director โ€“ Entity Appraisal & IT at the state-owned power sector financier.

Packirisamy brings more than three decades of experience in the power sector and infrastructure financing. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Tech in Management and Systems from IIT Delhi. He began his professional career in 1989 and joined PFC in 1997.

During his tenure at PFC, Packirisamy has played a significant role in strengthening the institution’s appraisal, credit assessment and risk management functions. He has been closely associated with the expansion of PFC’s lending operations and has contributed to the growth of the company’s loan portfolio through the development of robust appraisal frameworks and credit evaluation methodologies.

He has led several key initiatives, including the formulation of methodologies for categorising state generation and transmission utilities and the development of the Integrated Rating Framework for Power Distribution Companies, which was subsequently approved by the Ministry of Power. He has also been involved in drafting appraisal policies for private sector entities and establishing systems for online loan applications and preliminary appraisal processes.

Packirisamy has additionally contributed to the development of appraisal frameworks for renewable energy projects, reflecting PFC’s increasing focus on financing India’s clean energy transition.

Over the years, he has served on several strategic committees, including the Shunglu Committee constituted by the Prime Minister’s Office. He has also been a member of PFC’s Lending Policy Committee and various executive committees responsible for evaluating and approving large-value financing proposals. His contributions have extended to aligning PFC’s credit concentration norms with Reserve Bank of India guidelines.

Apart from his responsibilities at PFC, Packirisamy currently serves as a nominee director on the Board of Telangana North Discom and is the President of the Power Foundation of India.

His appointment comes as PFC continues to play a critical role in financing power, infrastructure and renewable energy projects across India, supporting the country’s energy transition and power sector development objectives.
