JUWI Reaches 1 GW Milestone in Simultaneous Global Renewable Energy Construction, Advances Solar and Wind Projects Across Multiple Markets

Renewable energy developer JUWI has reached a milestone of installing 1 GW of renewable energy capacity simultaneously across its global construction sites, marking a significant step in the company’s international project execution as it continues expanding its wind and solar portfolio.

The milestone was achieved with the commencement of solar module installation at the Trifylli solar park in northern Greece. According to the company, JUWI is currently installing approximately 1.3 million solar modules across 12 photovoltaic (PV) projects and constructing 46 wind turbines worldwide.

Over the past three decades, JUWI has planned and built more than 3.5 GW of wind power capacity and over 4 GW of solar PV capacity globally. The company expects to add around 1 GW of new renewable energy capacity in the coming months.

The Trifylli solar park forms part of the Clover PV portfolio, which JUWI is developing in Greece for investor Mirova. The portfolio comprises four solar projects with a combined capacity of 156 MW, all expected to be commissioned by next year. Overall, JUWI is currently constructing seven PV projects across Greece with a combined capacity exceeding 400 MW.

The company noted that construction activities in Greece have encountered archaeological discoveries, requiring project teams to adjust plant layouts while minimizing delays and maintaining construction schedules.

Beyond Europe, JUWI is nearing completion of the Grande Côte Operation PV hybrid project in Senegal, being developed for mining company Eramet. Located around 100 kilometres northeast of Dakar, the project includes a 20.3 MW solar PV plant integrated with an 11.12 MW battery energy storage system. In South Africa, JUWI is simultaneously developing four solar PV projects with a combined capacity of approximately 350 MW.

In Germany, wind energy continues to be the company’s primary revenue driver. JUWI is currently constructing 46 wind turbines with a combined generation capacity of around 270 MW across 11 project sites located in Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The company is also preparing its next phase of renewable energy developments in the United States and Italy following the commissioning of major solar projects in both countries by the end of 2025.

In the United States, JUWI commissioned the 186 MW Axial Basin Solar project in Moffat County, Colorado, alongside the 141 MW Dolores Canyon Solar project in Dolores County. Meanwhile, in Italy, its subsidiary JUWI Energie Rinnovabili S.r.l. commissioned a 41.7 MW solar park in Sardinia and the Loreo solar project near Rovigo, south of Venice.

Similar to its projects in Greece, construction activities in Sardinia were impacted by archaeological discoveries, including the remains of an estimated 6,000-year-old settlement comprising churches and burial sites. At the Loreo solar park, construction teams instead addressed geotechnical challenges associated with soft coastal marshland soils.

Commenting on the milestone, JUWI Chief Executive Officer Jost Backhaus said the achievement reflects the company’s planning and implementation capabilities, with project execution currently progressing across multiple international markets.
