NHPC Awards 1.2 GW Jalaun Solar Park Project At ₹2.73/kWh To Coal India And NLC India Renewables

NHPC Limited has finalized the successful bidders for the development of 1.2 GW (1,200 MW) of grid-connected solar power projects at the Jalaun Solar Power Park in Uttar Pradesh. The auction is an important step towards increasing India’s renewable energy capacity and supporting the country’s clean energy goals.

Coal India Limited (CIL) and NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited, have emerged as the winning bidders. Coal India Limited has secured 600 MW of capacity, divided into two projects of 300 MW each, while NLC India Renewables Limited has also been awarded 600 MW. Both companies won their projects at a tariff of ₹2.73 per kWh.

The tender for the project was originally issued by NHPC in July 2025. Following the completion of the tariff-based competitive bidding process, the entire 1.2 GW capacity has now been allocated to the selected developers. The solar projects will be developed within the Jalaun Solar Power Park, which is expected to strengthen renewable power generation and increase the supply of clean electricity to the national grid.

The bidding process was carried out by NHPC on behalf of Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL), a joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). The project has been designed to attract wider participation from developers by dividing the total capacity into smaller project blocks. This approach helped create a competitive bidding environment while ensuring the complete allocation of the planned capacity. Once commissioned, the projects are expected to contribute significantly to Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy development and support India’s long-term transition towards sustainable and low-carbon power generation.
