Alight Commissions 1.9 MW Rooftop Solar Project for ITP Aero’s UK Manufacturing Facility

Alight has commissioned a 1.9 MWp behind-the-meter (BtM) rooftop solar installation at ITP Aero’s manufacturing facility in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), supporting the aerospace company’s decarbonisation strategy and energy security objectives.

The rooftop solar system is now fully operational and forms part of Alight’s expanding UK commercial and industrial solar portfolio, which exceeds 50 MWp. The project supplies renewable electricity directly to the Hucknall facility, reducing dependence on grid electricity while providing stable, long-term energy pricing.

The installation is expected to generate approximately 1,600 MWh of renewable electricity annually, helping avoid around 310,000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Under the agreement, Alight has financed, built, owns and operates the solar asset, while all electricity generated is consumed on-site by ITP Aero.

According to the companies, the on-site PPA enables ITP Aero to secure a predictable and competitive electricity price, reduce exposure to wholesale power market volatility and strengthen the long-term sustainability of its manufacturing operations.

Rob Stait, Behind-the-Meter Managing Director at Alight, said the project reflects the company’s strategic focus on expanding its UK presence while enabling energy-intensive industries to lower both operating costs and carbon emissions through on-site renewable energy solutions.

ITP Aero’s Hucknall facility is a key manufacturing hub for the global aerospace sector, producing fabrications, combustors and fan outlet guide vanes for major aerospace manufacturers, including Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney. The rooftop solar project supports the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which targets a 65% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Ian Williamson, Managing Director of ITP Aero UK, said the rooftop solar installation represents an important milestone in the company’s decarbonisation journey and reinforces its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

The project has been financed through Alight’s £34 million UK behind-the-meter solar portfolio facility provided by Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. The financing is expected to support the deployment of additional large-scale on-site solar projects across the United Kingdom, further expanding access to competitively priced renewable electricity for industrial customers.
