NTPC Renewable Energy Invites Bids For 400 kV Substation To Support 900 MW Solar Project In Madhya Pradesh

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has invited bids for the development of a 400 kV Substation Package to support its upcoming 900 MW solar power projects at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. The company has launched the tender through a domestic competitive bidding process and will conduct it online using the Single Stage Two Envelope system. Interested bidders are required to submit both the Techno-Commercial Bid and the Price Bid at the same time.

The project involves the complete design, engineering, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the substation, along with all associated civil and structural works. As part of the contract, the selected bidder will build a 400 kV Air Insulated Switchyard (AIS) Park Pooling Substation with five AIS bays. The work also includes the installation of substation automation systems, protection and metering systems, auxiliary equipment, and a Master Power Plant Controller. In addition, the contractor will carry out grid compliance studies for the 900 MW solar project, which has been planned in three separate blocks of 300 MW each.

The contractor will also be responsible for the erection and commissioning of two 500 MVA Inter-Connecting Transformers (ICTs), which will be supplied by the project owner. Other responsibilities include constructing a control room, installing telemetry data systems, and providing operations and maintenance (O&M) services for a period of three years after the successful commissioning of the project.

NREL has specified detailed technical and financial eligibility requirements for companies interested in participating in the tender. From the technical perspective, bidders must have successfully commissioned at least one 400 kV or higher Air Insulated Switchyard with a minimum of four bays during the last ten years. The project should have been in successful operation for at least one year. Alternatively, companies with experience in commissioning a 220 kV switchyard with at least four bays, along with one 400 kV bay, will also be eligible.

On the financial side, bidders must have achieved an average annual turnover of at least ₹27 crore during the previous three financial years. They must also have a positive financial position, with a net worth equal to or greater than 100 percent of their paid-up share capital as of the last day of the previous financial year.

According to the tender schedule, bidding documents can be downloaded from July 3 to July 13, 2026, until 5:00 PM IST. A pre-bid conference and the deadline for submission of queries have been scheduled for July 15, 2026. The final date for bid submission is July 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM IST, while the Techno-Commercial Bids will be opened on the same day at 2:30 PM IST.

Bidders are required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹1 crore either through a sealed envelope or by providing proof of electronic fund transfer. Failure to submit the required bid security will result in immediate rejection of the bid. Interested companies must also register on the ISN Electronic Tender Services portal and submit a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement before the document sale period closes to gain access to the official bidding documents. All communications related to the tender will be handled by the Contracts Services department of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited at its office in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
