PM Modi Inaugurates SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project In Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated SJVN Limited’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project from Pachpadra in Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy journey. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Union ministers, and senior officials from SJVN Limited and its renewable energy subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).

The solar project has been developed by SGEL with an investment of around ₹5,492 crore. Spread across nearly 5,000 acres in Bikaner district, it is the largest single Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) solar project in India under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at one location. The project has been built using domestically manufactured solar equipment, reflecting the country’s growing capabilities in renewable energy infrastructure.

The 1,000 MW solar plant is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units of electricity during its first year of operation. Over its expected operational life of 25 years, the project is estimated to produce around 56,482.14 million units of clean electricity. The generated power will be supplied to different regions of the country. Rajasthan will receive 500 MW, while Jammu and Kashmir will get 300 MW, and Uttarakhand will receive the remaining 200 MW. This will help strengthen the power supply and support the increasing demand for clean energy.

Apart from improving electricity availability, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. It is estimated to prevent nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions during its lifetime, supporting India’s climate goals and efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The Bikaner Solar Power Project also supports the Government of India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. Around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and nearly 175 crore indigenous solar cells were used in the project. This has encouraged domestic manufacturing, strengthened the local supply chain, and promoted the use of Indian-made renewable energy equipment.

The project has also created economic opportunities in the Bikaner region. More than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs were generated during the construction and commissioning phases, while employment opportunities continue during its operation. The development of the project has also improved local infrastructure through the construction of roads, transmission networks, and other supporting facilities.

SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, currently has an installed power generation capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates 123 kilometres of transmission lines. With the commissioning of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, the company has further strengthened its contribution to India’s renewable energy sector and its commitment to supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
