Vikram Solar has commissioned its new solar module manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, with the successful production of its first solar module, marking another milestone in the company’s manufacturing expansion and India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.
The greenfield facility follows the recent launch of Vikram Solar’s Vallam plant and is expected to strengthen the company’s production capabilities through advanced automation and smart manufacturing technologies. The plant also forms part of Vikram Solar’s long-term strategy to establish a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem encompassing module, cell, wafer, and ingot production.
Spread across approximately 600,000 sq. ft., the facility is expected to create employment for more than 1,500 skilled professionals while contributing to regional industrial development and expanding India’s clean energy manufacturing base.
According to the company, the manufacturing plant incorporates advanced automation and digital production systems designed to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing precision. The facility features real-time production monitoring, complete module traceability, automated quality inspection systems, automated material handling, and intelligent grading, sorting, and packaging processes.
The first products manufactured at the facility are Vikram Solar’s Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R photovoltaic modules, offering a power output ranging from 615 Wp to 640 Wp and module efficiencies of up to 23.69%.
The Gangaikondan facility will serve as the foundation for the company’s vertically integrated manufacturing roadmap. Vikram Solar plans to establish 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY2026-27, expand it by an additional 3 GW by FY2027-28, and add 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY2029-30.
The company said the integrated manufacturing model is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience, improve quality control across the solar value chain, reduce logistics costs, and increase domestic value addition in line with India’s domestic manufacturing objectives.
Commenting on the milestone, Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikram Solar, said the commissioning of the Gangaikondan plant represents an important step in the company’s growth strategy following its achievement of more than 10 GW of cumulative global solar module deployments earlier this year. He added that the planned integration of cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing would strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities while supporting India’s clean energy and self-reliance goals.
