ACWA Power Wins Exclusive Saudi Mandate To Export Green Hydrogen And Renewable Electricity

ACWA Power has received official approval from the Saudi government to exclusively develop and export green hydrogen and its derivatives from the Kingdom to international markets. The mandate allows the company to export products such as green ammonia, green methanol, and other green fuels, marking a major step in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to become a global supplier of clean energy.

The approval comes as demand for low-carbon energy solutions continues to grow worldwide. It also supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to diversify the country’s economy, reduce dependence on oil revenues, and make better use of its abundant renewable energy resources. By exporting green hydrogen and related products, Saudi Arabia hopes to create new long-term sources of income while contributing to the global energy transition.

Along with the green hydrogen export mandate, ACWA Power has also been assigned to develop large-scale renewable electricity projects. These projects will focus on producing, transmitting, and exporting clean electricity generated from renewable energy sources to European and Arab markets. The initiative is expected to strengthen regional energy security while providing reliable and competitively priced renewable power to countries seeking cleaner energy supplies.

Commenting on the development, ACWA Power Chief Executive Officer Dr. Samir J. Serhan said the government’s decision reflects confidence in the company’s ability to deliver large and complex infrastructure projects. He stated that exporting green hydrogen and renewable electricity represents the next phase of Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the global energy sector. According to him, the new mandate also expands ACWA Power’s role in building the future clean energy economy and supports the Kingdom’s evolving energy export strategy.

The latest assignment builds on ACWA Power’s existing experience in renewable energy and green hydrogen. The company is already one of the leading developers of the NEOM Green Hydrogen project, which is regarded as one of the world’s largest green hydrogen developments. Beyond Saudi Arabia, ACWA Power has a significant international presence with a portfolio of 111 assets across 16 countries. The company manages assets valued at around 125 billion US dollars, equivalent to approximately 468.9 billion Saudi riyals.

Looking ahead, ACWA Power plans to work closely with government agencies, international partners, and other stakeholders to develop the infrastructure needed for large-scale exports of green hydrogen and renewable electricity. The company aims to connect Saudi Arabia’s expanding renewable energy capacity with growing global demand for sustainable energy solutions. This initiative is expected to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a leading exporter of clean energy while supporting ACWA Power’s long-term growth and diversified business strategy.
