JA ESS has commissioned a commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage system (BESS) in the United Kingdom, strengthening its presence in Europe’s rapidly expanding energy storage market and supporting the growing demand for behind-the-meter storage solutions.
The project has been deployed for a local clean energy company operating across solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage, and electric vehicle (EV) charging. In addition to supporting the customer’s energy management requirements, the installation will serve as a demonstration site showcasing integrated solar, battery storage, and EV charging solutions for commercial customers.
According to JA ESS, the project will also provide valuable operational experience to support future deployments across a broader range of commercial and industrial applications in the UK and other European markets.
The commissioning comes as Europe’s battery storage sector continues to experience rapid growth. In 2025, the European Union added 27.1 GWh of battery energy storage capacity, marking its 12th consecutive year of record installations, while cumulative solar PV capacity reached approximately 406 GW. Rising solar deployment, increasing electricity costs, and growing demand for energy resilience are driving wider adoption of behind-the-meter battery storage across the region.
Beyond the UK, JA ESS has expanded its C&I storage footprint across Europe. Since the beginning of the second quarter of 2026, the company has commissioned battery storage projects in Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, Austria, Croatia, and Germany, serving sectors including manufacturing, industrial processing, logistics, commercial facilities, and energy services.
The company noted that commercial and industrial battery storage systems are increasingly being deployed for applications beyond peak shaving, including maximizing solar self-consumption, reducing demand charges, providing backup power, and optimizing multiple on-site energy assets. Operating projects across different European markets also enables JA ESS to gain practical experience under diverse grid conditions, load profiles, and commercial operating models.
Earlier this year at Intersolar Europe 2026, JA ESS introduced two new commercial and industrial battery storage solutions. The JAPlanet Fusion is a DC-coupled hybrid battery energy storage system designed for new solar-plus-storage installations and projects requiring high levels of solar self-consumption. The JAPlanet 2.0 is an all-in-one C&I battery storage solution developed for applications including peak shaving, demand management, and backup power.
JA ESS said it will continue combining product innovation with operational experience gained from local projects to address the growing and increasingly diverse demand for commercial and industrial energy storage solutions across Europe.
