Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited (WRTL), the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arm of Waaree Energies Limited, has signed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Agreement with a special purpose vehicle of a leading global independent power producer (IPP) to develop a utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) project integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS) in New Zealand.
The project will be executed through a consortium comprising WRTL and two experienced local companies, with WRTL leading the solar supply and engineering scope. The agreement marks the company’s strategic entry into the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) renewable energy market.
Under the ECI agreement, WRTL will undertake limited early-stage project activities. Upon successful completion of this phase, the project principal may award the full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to the consortium.
According to the company, the project is expected to become one of New Zealand’s largest solar energy developments upon completion. The integrated solar and battery energy storage system is designed to support the country’s transition to a cleaner energy mix while improving grid reliability, strengthening energy resilience and enabling greater integration of renewable power.
WRTL said the agreement represents a key milestone in its international expansion strategy and reinforces its commitment to growing its presence in high-potential global renewable energy markets. By partnering with established local companies, the firm aims to combine its EPC expertise and project execution capabilities with local market knowledge to deliver the project.
The company noted that the Australia and New Zealand region continues to attract significant renewable energy investment, supported by ambitious decarbonisation targets, rising electricity demand and increasing adoption of energy storage technologies. WRTL said its expansion into the ANZ market aligns with its long-term strategy of becoming a globally recognised renewable energy solutions provider.
Commenting on the development, Sunil Rathi, Executive Director of Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited, said the agreement marks an important milestone in the company’s international growth strategy. He said entering the ANZ market through the proposed landmark project in New Zealand reflects WRTL’s confidence in the region’s renewable energy potential and its ability to execute large-scale, technologically advanced clean energy projects.
