Shanxi Installation Group Co., Ltd. has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth approximately RMB 1.5 billion for the 500 MW Al Kamil I Solar Independent Power Project (IPP) in Oman. The contract was signed on July 14, 2026, marking a significant step in the company’s international expansion and supporting Oman’s growing renewable energy programme.
Located in Al Kamil Wal Wafi, the utility-scale solar project is being developed by a consortium led by EDF Power Solutions. The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) will serve as the power offtaker, purchasing the electricity generated by the plant for supply to the national grid.
Under the EPC agreement, Shanxi Installation Group will be responsible for the complete execution of the project. Its scope of work includes engineering and design, procurement of equipment and materials, manufacturing, transportation, installation, construction, grid connection, testing, and commissioning of the solar power plant. In addition to project delivery, the company will provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for two and a half years after the plant is completed.
The contract represents Shanxi Installation Group’s first major project in the Middle East, expanding its presence in the global renewable energy market. The company views the project as an important milestone in strengthening its international EPC portfolio and enhancing its experience in delivering large-scale solar infrastructure.
Once commissioned, the 500 MW Al Kamil I Solar IPP will contribute clean electricity to Oman’s power network. The project is expected to play a key role in increasing the country’s renewable energy capacity, diversifying its electricity generation mix, and improving long-term energy security. It will also support Oman’s efforts to reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuel-based power generation and advance its decarbonisation and energy transition goals.
The project further reflects Oman’s growing appeal as a destination for international renewable energy investment and large-scale solar development, attracting global developers, contractors, and technology providers to support the country’s clean energy ambitions.
