Sonnedix Secures €730 Million Financing to Expand 540 MW Solar and BESS Portfolio Across Southern Europe

Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with a total portfolio of 12 GW, has secured €730 million in financing to support the refinancing, optimisation, and construction of renewable energy assets across Southern Europe. The funding will strengthen the company’s presence in France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain while supporting its long-term growth strategy in the region.

The financing will be used for a portfolio that includes solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a combined capacity of around 540 MW, along with two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Italy will receive the largest share of the investment, accounting for more than 350 MW of the total capacity covered by the financing.

According to Sonnedix, the refinancing will provide a stronger financial platform for expanding its hybrid energy strategy. The company plans to integrate more battery storage systems with its existing solar PV assets, helping improve energy flexibility, increase grid reliability, and deliver more value to customers. The move also supports the company’s efforts to meet growing demand for renewable energy solutions combined with energy storage.

The financing transaction was completed with the participation of several leading financial institutions, including AIB, CACIB, CIBC, ING, Intesa Sanpaolo, Sabadell, Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, Societe Generale, and UniCredit. Their involvement reflects continued confidence in Sonnedix’s renewable energy portfolio and long-term development plans.

Sonnedix said the financing reinforces its strong growth momentum across Southern Europe and highlights its expanding role in integrating battery storage technologies into renewable energy projects. The company believes hybrid solar and storage systems will play an important role in improving the resilience and flexibility of clean energy infrastructure.

Axel Thiemann, Chief Executive Officer of Sonnedix, said the financing demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing high-quality renewable energy projects in its strategic markets. He noted that the transaction follows Sonnedix’s recent acquisition of a battery energy storage portfolio in Italy and highlights the company’s rapid expansion of storage capabilities across Europe.

Miguel A. García Mascuñán, Chief Financial Officer of Sonnedix, described the €730 million financing as a major milestone for the company. He said it provides greater financial flexibility and the capacity to accelerate Sonnedix’s development pipeline across its core European markets while reflecting the continued trust and confidence of its financial partners.
