Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 100 MW group captive solar power project at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar, Tamil Nadu.
The project will supply renewable electricity to three Tata Group companies: TP Solar, Tata Electronics and Tata Realty Infrastructure Limited. Of the project’s capacity, TP Solar will receive 40.625 MW, Tata Electronics 53.125 MW and Tata Realty Infrastructure 6.25 MW.
The solar project is expected to generate approximately 240.63 million units (MUs) of electricity annually and offset around 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The electricity generated will be evacuated through the Kayathar 400 kV Grid Substation, supporting reliable transmission to the beneficiary companies.
The project features 261,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules and deploys Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) Single Axis Tracker technology, which TPREL described as a first-of-its-kind deployment for a Tata project in India. The technology is designed to improve energy generation and operational efficiency across varying terrain conditions.
Following the commissioning, TPREL’s utility renewable energy portfolio has reached 12.3 GW, while its operational renewable capacity has crossed 7 GW. The operational portfolio comprises more than 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity.
TPREL has a further 5.3 GW of renewable capacity under development, including 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind projects. These projects are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 6–24 months.
The latest project strengthens TPREL’s renewable energy portfolio in Tamil Nadu and supports the company’s expansion of utility-scale solar capacity for industrial and commercial consumers. It also contributes to the wider adoption of renewable energy and the decarbonization efforts of Tata Group companies.
