Iberdrola Advances UK Grid Planning to Support Future Industrial Demand

Iberdrola is strengthening the role of electricity networks in the UK through the Net Zero Industrial Pathways (NZIP) project, an initiative led by ScottishPower Energy Networks to improve electricity network planning amid growing industrial decarbonisation needs.

The project works directly with industrial facilities to assess their current electricity consumption, network connections, potential decarbonisation technologies and expected future energy demand. This information is incorporated into future energy scenarios and grid development plans, enabling more precise planning of network investments.

The data-driven approach is expected to help reduce connection risks, improve capital efficiency and strengthen planning capabilities for local authorities, regulators and system operators. Through the initiative, Iberdrola aims to support the development of smarter and more flexible electricity networks capable of enabling wider electrification and the UK’s transition towards a net-zero economy.
