Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has finalized the winners for its 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) auction, with tariffs ranging from INR 2.38 lakh to INR 2.40 lakh per MW per month. The auction has awarded capacities to multiple developers across two procurement tranches.
Under Part A, covering 1,500 MW, the projects were awarded at a uniform tariff of INR 2.38 lakh per MW per month. Oriana Power emerged as the largest individual winner with 500 MW, followed by BSL Engineering Service with 300 MW and ArMee Infotech with 250 MW. Stockwell Solar Services secured 150 MW, while Claro Energy and Jailaxmi Sugar Products received 100 MW and 50 MW, respectively. GK Energy also entered the battery storage segment by securing 150 MW from its quoted capacity of 1,250 MW through the bucket-filling method.
Part B covers 500 MW and attracted a tariff of INR 2.40 lakh per MW per month. Aditya Green Energy secured 40 MW, while Kotecha Sales, Rudraksha Power and Gurutara Green Energy each won 20 MW. Oriana Power secured the remaining 400 MW through the bucket-filling process. This takes its total awarded capacity across both parts to 900 MW. The company estimates aggregate revenue of approximately INR 3,870 crore over the 15-year contract period from the two contracts.
The selected developers will receive Viability Gap Funding support of up to INR 18 lakh per MW. They will enter into 15-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements with MSEDCL and must maintain minimum annual system availability of 95 percent and monthly round-trip efficiency of 85 percent.
The tender also includes domestic manufacturing requirements, with developers required to meet at least 20 percent local content. This includes the use of indigenously developed Energy Management System application software.
