UltraTech Cement Limited has announced that its Kukurdih Cement Works in Chhattisgarh has been meeting 100% of its monthly electricity requirement through green energy since April 2026.
Commissioned in 2024, the integrated cement manufacturing unit has an installed grey cement capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The facility has achieved the milestone through a combination of renewable power sourcing and Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS).
UltraTech said the combination now covers the plant’s full electricity requirement while maintaining operational reliability.
Since April 2026, nearly one-third of UltraTech’s 76 manufacturing units in India have recorded green energy utilisation of more than 50% of their electricity consumption. Five units, including Kukurdih Cement Works, have reported green energy utilisation of more than 95%.
The company is also deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across its manufacturing network to support greater integration of renewable energy.
UltraTech said it has not invested in new captive thermal power capacity for greenfield projects or brownfield expansions at its integrated units for more than a decade, as part of its decarbonisation strategy and efforts to increase green energy usage.
As of Q1 FY27, the company’s captive green energy capacity stood at 1,897 MW, comprising 1,463 MW of renewable energy capacity from solar, wind and hybrid sources, along with 434 MW of WHRS capacity.
Under its RE100 commitment, UltraTech aims to increase the share of green power in its overall electricity mix to 85% by 2030 and reach 100% by 2050.
The company’s green energy expansion is part of its broader strategy to reduce emissions from cement manufacturing while increasing the use of renewable and waste heat-based power across its operations.
