Apraava Energy has acquired Raigad Power Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established to develop an intrastate power transmission project across Maharashtra’s Pune and Raigad districts.
The project was awarded to Apraava through the Government of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. It will involve the development of approximately 400 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines, including around 340 ckm of 765 kV lines, with the remaining network comprising 400 kV and 220 kV double-circuit transmission lines.
The project will also include a 4,500 MVA (3×1,500 MVA) 765/400/220 kV pooling station. It is intended to strengthen grid stability and reliability while supporting the evacuation of approximately 3 GW of power from potential pumped storage plants (PSPs) in Raigad district.
The acquisition marks Apraava Energy’s entry into transmission infrastructure in Maharashtra. The company said the project will support the reliable integration of renewable energy and strengthen the state’s transmission network to meet growing electricity demand.
Commenting on the development, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director, Apraava Energy, said that the project will contribute to strengthening Maharashtra’s transmission network and enabling renewable energy integration. He noted that Maharashtra was also the location of Apraava’s first wind project, commissioned in 2006, marking the company’s entry into renewable energy.
The project will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model and will provide transmission services for a 35-year concession period following commissioning. The project is scheduled to be completed within 24 months from the signing of the Transmission Service Agreement (TSA).
The development is also expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities during the construction and operational phases.
Apraava Energy currently operates three transmission assets, comprising approximately 1,000 ckm of transmission lines and 3,500 MVA of substation capacity. With the addition of Raigad Power Transmission Limited, the company now has five greenfield transmission projects under construction, which are expected to collectively add approximately 1,580 ckm of transmission lines and 18,000 MVA of substation capacity.
Headquartered in Mumbai, Apraava Energy also has an established renewable energy presence in Maharashtra, with more than 200 MW of operational wind capacity and 70 MW of operational solar capacity.
