The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a sustainability-linked loan of up to US$150 million to Enerjisa Enerji Üretim A.Ş. (Enerjisa Üretim), one of Türkiye’s largest independent power producers, to strengthen its financial position and support the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio. The long-term financing will help the company refinance short-term debt previously used for renewable energy investments, improving its balance sheet and supporting its future growth plans.
The financing is expected to contribute to Türkiye’s energy security by supporting additional domestic renewable energy generation. The loan is linked to specific sustainability targets, under which Enerjisa Üretim has committed to increasing its installed renewable energy capacity and reducing its carbon dioxide emissions.
Enerjisa Üretim has approximately 4.7 GW of installed generation capacity across 37 power plants. Its portfolio includes hydroelectric, wind and solar power projects, alongside thermal generation assets. The company continues to focus on expanding its renewable energy operations while maintaining financial discipline and strengthening the resilience of its business.
Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Managing Director of the EBRD’s Sustainable Infrastructure Group, said the financing reflects the institutions’ long-standing partnership and shared commitment to accelerating Türkiye’s energy transition. He noted that combining long-term financing with clear renewable energy and emissions targets would help strengthen the company’s resilience, support additional generation capacity and improve the country’s energy security.
Mert Yaycıoğlu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Enerjisa Üretim, said the US$150 million financing forms an important part of the company’s long-term financing strategy. He added that the funding would support renewable energy investments and the continued expansion of its generation portfolio. The company also highlighted the importance of its partnerships with international financial institutions in supporting sustainable growth and its contribution to Türkiye’s energy transition.
The EBRD has supported Enerjisa Üretim’s renewable energy investments for several years, including through financing for wind power projects in 2012, 2023 and 2025. The latest loan builds on this relationship and reinforces the bank’s support for the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Türkiye.
The EBRD remains a major institutional investor in Türkiye. Since 2009, it has committed more than €25 billion to the country, with most of its investments directed towards the private sector. The latest financing highlights the role of long-term funding and sustainability-linked financial instruments in supporting renewable energy expansion, reducing emissions and strengthening energy security.
