Sahaj Solar Limited has announced plans to expand its business into the battery energy storage sector by establishing a new manufacturing facility with a production and storage capacity of 1.8 GWh for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Dakor, Gujarat. The company’s board of directors approved the proposal during a meeting held on October 19, 2026. The expansion marks the company’s entry into a new business segment as it seeks to strengthen its presence in renewable energy and clean energy solutions.
The proposed facility will have a dedicated capacity of 1.8 GWh for manufacturing and storage of Battery Energy Storage Systems. Sahaj Solar currently has no existing capacity or utilisation in this segment, making the project its first major step towards developing an energy storage business. The company aims to integrate battery storage solutions with its existing solar systems operations to offer a more comprehensive range of renewable energy products.
The company has estimated a capital investment of approximately ₹25 crore for the project. This amount excludes the cost of the factory premises, which have already been constructed. The investment will be funded through a combination of debt and internal accruals. By utilising the existing premises, Sahaj Solar plans to develop the new manufacturing facility while focusing its investment on the required production infrastructure and related operations.
Along with setting up the manufacturing facility, Sahaj Solar intends to introduce a new product line focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems. The company expects to complete the entire project, including the addition of manufacturing capacity and the launch of its BESS products, within 12 months.
The proposed products will serve both domestic and international markets, with India identified as the initial target market. The company expects the expansion to support its efforts to address the growing demand for energy storage technologies and strengthen its portfolio of clean energy solutions.
Battery Energy Storage Systems are increasingly important for integrating renewable energy into electricity networks, improving power reliability and managing fluctuations in solar and wind generation. These systems can store electricity for use when renewable generation is limited or demand is high.
Through this investment, Sahaj Solar aims to establish a presence in the emerging energy storage market while building on its existing solar business. The integration of solar systems and battery storage could enable the company to provide customers with more comprehensive energy solutions as India’s renewable energy capacity continues to expand.
