Bajel Projects Secures Orders For Mumbai Substations And Gujarat Transmission Lines

Bajel Projects Limited has secured two major domestic orders worth more than ₹1,700 crore combined, strengthening its position in India’s power transmission and distribution sector. The contracts include the construction of 400 kV gas-insulated substations in Mumbai and a large-scale 765 kV transmission line project in Gujarat. Both projects are expected to support grid modernization, improve electricity transmission capacity and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national power network.

The first order has been awarded by The Tata Power Company Limited for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project valued at over ₹200 crore. The project involves constructing 400 kV gas-insulated substations (GIS) at Dharavi and Ghatkopar in Mumbai, along with associated civil and electrical works. Bajel Projects is expected to complete the project within 18 months.

ReNew

The new substations are intended to strengthen Mumbai’s power transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability of electricity supply in areas experiencing growing demand. As urbanization and electricity consumption continue to increase, investments in high-capacity substations are becoming increasingly important for maintaining grid stability and meeting the requirements of residential, commercial and industrial consumers. The project will contribute to the modernization of the city’s electricity network by adding critical transmission infrastructure.

The second order, valued at ₹1,500 crore, is the largest transmission order secured by Bajel Projects to date. Awarded by Lakadia A Power Transmission Limited, the project involves constructing approximately 270 kilometres of 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines between Halvad and Vadodara in Gujarat. The scope also includes extension works at the Halvad, Vadodara and South Olpad substations. The project is scheduled for completion within 36 months.

The Gujarat transmission project forms part of a broader infrastructure development programme designed to evacuate nearly 14 GW of renewable energy from key generation zones, including Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya and Jamnagar. Strengthening transmission networks in these regions is essential for transporting electricity from renewable energy-rich areas to consumption centres.

The development also supports India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. As solar and wind power installations expand, additional transmission capacity will be required to manage higher electricity flows, reduce network constraints and improve the efficient utilisation of clean energy.

Lakadia A Power Transmission Limited was transferred to AnantGrid Projects One Private Limited, a joint venture owned 26% by Bajel Projects Limited and 74% by the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund.

These two contracts are expected to strengthen Bajel Projects’ order book and expand its presence in the transmission infrastructure segment. The projects highlight the growing demand for high-voltage transmission systems and substations as India continues to modernize its power network and accelerate renewable energy integration.
