Pace Digitek Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for Coal India Limited’s 187.50 MW/750 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Choutuppal in Telangana, with a bid value of ₹1,073.74 crore. The project will be executed under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model and includes a comprehensive operation and maintenance commitment of 15 years.
The financial bids for the project were opened on October 24, 2026. The tender has reached the stage of identifying the lowest bidder, while the final EPC contract award remains pending.
Pace Digitek submitted the lowest financial bid among the eight bidders reported to have undergone financial evaluation. Kosol Energie–D. E. C. Infrastructure and Projects (India) Private Limited joint venture emerged as the second-lowest bidder with a bid of ₹1,089 crore, which was ₹15.26 crore higher than Pace Digitek’s offer, or approximately 1.42% above the L1 price.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy ranked third with a bid of ₹1,097.63 crore, approximately 2.22% above the lowest bid. KPI Green Energy Limited submitted a bid of ₹1,194.67 crore, followed by Amara Raja Infra Private Limited at ₹1,225.35 crore and Larsen & Toubro at ₹1,235.70 crore.
JAKSON Group submitted a bid of ₹1,401.84 crore, while Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited quoted ₹1,599.07 crore. These bids were approximately 30.56% and 48.93% higher than Pace Digitek’s offer, respectively.
According to the tender details provided, 11 bids were received, of which eight bidders were financially evaluated. Three bidders were reportedly rejected during the technical evaluation stage.
The proposed 187.50 MW/750 MWh battery storage facility is intended to support electricity grid stability and improve the flexibility of power system operations. Battery energy storage systems are becoming increasingly important as India expands renewable energy capacity, particularly solar and wind power, whose generation varies with weather conditions and time of day.
Energy storage can help balance electricity demand and supply, store surplus power when generation is high and release electricity when required. Such systems can also support grid management and improve the integration of renewable energy into the electricity network.
The project’s long-term performance will depend on system availability, operational reliability, safety and effective maintenance throughout the 15-year O&M period. While Pace Digitek has emerged as the L1 bidder, the final contract award and subsequent execution milestones will determine the project’s progress.
