Shoto (Shuangdeng Group) and ACME Group have completed the commissioning of a 100 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Rajasthan, India, marking another development in the country’s expanding grid-scale energy storage sector. The project is designed to support renewable energy integration and strengthen grid stability as India increases its solar and wind power capacity.
According to Shoto, the project incorporates a customized battery energy storage solution developed to meet India’s grid requirements and operate under Rajasthan’s challenging climatic conditions. The system has a four-hour storage duration, enabling it to deliver electricity during periods of high demand and support more effective management of renewable energy generation.
The project has reportedly secured financing through a non-recourse syndicated loan involving Indian financial institutions, including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, and local green finance institutions. This financing arrangement highlights the growing role of institutional funding in supporting large-scale energy storage infrastructure in India.
The collaboration between Shoto and ACME brings together battery storage technology and renewable energy project development capabilities. The installation is expected to contribute to improved grid flexibility, reduced renewable energy curtailment, and more reliable electricity supply by storing excess generation for use when required.
The commissioning comes as India accelerates the deployment of battery energy storage systems to address the intermittency of renewable power generation and support its clean energy transition.
Shoto has positioned the project as a potential reference for future energy storage developments across India and other South Asian markets, where demand for flexible and reliable power infrastructure continues to grow.
