The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has recently granted another 3 month extension to obligated entities for fulfilling their renewable purchase obligations (RPOs) for 2020 had extended the time for complying with the RPO for FY20 by three months, keeping in view the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Few stakeholders had made representation to the Commission, seeking further extension of time upto 30.11.2020, for meeting the RPO for FY20, keeping in view the orders passed by the Hon’ ble ATE suspending the trading of RECs till 26.08.2020.
The Commission stated that distribution licensees, grid-connected captive consumers, and open access consumers could meet their RPOs for the current year by 30 November 2020.
In May, It had granted a three-month extension allowing obligated entities to meet their RPO targets by 31 August 2020.
The Commission also stated that entities failing to meet their RPO or a part of it before the deadline have to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) to the extent of 110% of the RPO shortfall by 31 December 2020.
