A 70% owned subsidiary of G Capital Bhd (GCAP), Solarcity Malaysia Sdn Bhd, completed and began the operation of a 7.0 MWp solar photovoltaic power generation system for Evergreen Fibreboard Bhd in Batu Pahat (Johor). This was after the signing of a power purchase arrangement on 17th June 2021.

This increases the total solar power in GCAP to 15.3 MWp. It would also generate a yearly revenue potential for the 25-year PPA of RM 4 million.

Datuk Yap Yee Ping, Executive Director of GCAP, stated that the company began seedlings for solar PV projects in 2021. The company is making progress in this venture.

“Today, we commissioned our fourth solar PV system this year after three back-to-back completions and commissioning 7.2MWp across Peninsula Malaysia in the first quarter of 2022,” she said in a statement.

GCAP’s future growth will be fueled by recurring and sustainable cash and top-line flows.

Evergreen is listed on Bursa Malaysia’s main market. It manufactures and sells wooden products such as fibreboard, furniture and wood pellets among others.

GCAP installed Evergreen’s 7.0MWp solar PV systems. This was the first SMSB to exceed 5MWp in terms of installation capacity under the guidelines of the Energy Commission Malaysia. GCAP has now doubled its solar photovoltaic system commissioning capacity to 15.3MWp.

Yap is optimistic about the future growth of its solar division. She believes there is still great potential for scale in the sector, where small- and medium-sized businesses can take advantage of the green energy GCAP offers.

This would allow owners to save electricity and promote environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG). There is no doubt that sustainability has been pushed to the forefront of all those involved in renewable energy-related matters. She stated that she was confident in her prospects and track record for completing and commissioning additional RE projects.
