B.Grimm Power Plc (BGRIM), Thailand’s largest energy conglomerate, and EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL Gen) of Laos signed an agreement to cooperate on wide-ranging power-related ventures in order to meet ASEAN’s clean energy needs.
President of BGRIM, Harald Link and chief executive of EDL-Gen, Duangsy Pharanhok, signed a memorandum to understanding, in order to explore together the possibility of developing hydropower, solar power, and wind power, in domestic and international markets.
EDL-Gen, a Vientiane-based state power enterprise Electricite du Laos is listed on the local Stock Exchange.
The total installed capacity of the firm is 1,949 megawatts, with 1,683MW from 27 power stations which are working.
EDL-Gen owns 10 hydropower stations and 16 plants are part of the joint-private partnership scheme for independent power producers (IPP). EDL-Gen plans to have 42 power plants totaling 2,435MW by 2029.
Thailand is a significant buyer of electricity from EDL Gen, accounting for as much as 42% of its total installed electricity generation.
BGRIM is a global power producer and has been looking to increase its investment in power plants at home and abroad. BGRIM has 56 power plants. It has a target to increase its power sales contracts to 7,200MW in 2025, and to 10,000MW by 2030.
The long-term goals of the company are to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in 2050.
