“We, together with a team of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries have reviewed the construction site for the solar power plant on Lengkuas Island,” said Ridwan Djamaluddin, Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands.

Djamaluddin pointed out that the construction of the power plant on Lengkuas Island was part of the government’s efforts to pursue renewable energy and provide affordable clean energy for local communities.

He noted that “Some time ago, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries had also constructed a 10 kWp solar plant in Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone to support the G20 event in Belitung.”

He stated that Lengkuas Island’s solar plant was essential in meeting the community’s energy needs for developing the island’s tourism.

He stated that the solar power plant could not only provide electricity for residents but also help to desalinate seawater and make it suitable for drinking.

Radian Nurcahyo was the assistant deputy for energy in the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs. He noted that Ridwan Djamaluddin, Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung, had initiated the plan for the construction of the second power plant.

“After seeing the location, we noticed that the construction of the solar plant on Lengkuas Island was not the same as the one in Tanjung Kelayang SEZ. He noted that it was likely to be mounted on the roof because of the conditions of the waves.

Nurcahyo stated that the technical development of the solar plant on Lengkuas Island will be discussed in order to move forward with the construction of this renewable power plant.

He said, “We will further discuss whether the procurement is identical to in the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ via a grant from PT Radiant Utama Interinsco or if the regional government’s sources it instead.”
