Clean energy expert, Solarvest Holdings Berhad (Solarvest) today launched an electric vehicle (EV) charging and mobility solution called “PowerBee”, to accelerate the adoption of clean electrified transportation in Malaysia.

Following Malaysia’s unveiling of Low Carbon Nation Aspiration 2040 initiatives, the national target is to grow its EV market share from less than 1% in 2018 to 38% by 2040. As such, the launch of PowerBee’s low carbon mobility solution is aimed to boost the readiness of grid infrastructures and charging facilities to accommodate the increase in EVs.

At the current stage, the Group will build, own and operate EV charging stations in residential, commercial and industrial developments, as well as in public locations including highways. There is ample opportunity in this area, which includes targeting the Group’s commercial and industrial customers to install EV charging stations for its fleet of company motor vehicles. This will create a hassle-free experience for EV owners while enabling easier adoption of EVs in the country.

Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest, Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong said, “The launch of PowerBee certainly bodes well with our transformation as a regenerative clean energy expert. Not resting on our laurels, we aim to build a resilient and sustainable ecosystem by venturing into a vertical expansion across the clean energy ecosystem. Leveraging on our existing renewable assets and expertise in solar, we are confident in Solarvest’s development of green charging infrastructure to provide reliable, accessible, and affordable clean energy solutions.” Mr. Davis commented.

“As Solarvest strives to foster green technological advancement in the clean energy sector, the introduction of this EV charging and mobility solution will further push the innovation frontier of the industry. Going forward, we aim to venture into EV battery storage systems encompassing Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology and battery swapping station in supporting the overall clean energy ecosystem. To illustrate, 1 million EVs is equivalent to 100GWh power banks, which is sufficient to power up 10 million households for 5 hours. This can be used to strengthen the grid by providing multiple ancillary services, and in return helping the grid to integrate more renewable energy resources, which is the main hurdle at the moment” Mr. Leon added.
