Tenaga Nasional Bhd. (TNB) expressed interest in participating in the development of energy solutions in Indonesia’s Ibu Kota Negara Authority (IKN) in various areas of solar, wind, gas, hydro, and battery storage.
TNB sent a letter of intent stating that it is open to exploring any opportunities in the grid interconnection market through collaboration with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, (PLN), to create a reliable and secure high-voltage transmission infrastructure within the Global City for All (IKN Nusantara).
TNB President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Baharin din stated that the LOI will strengthen bilateral relations, and cooperation and accelerate the development of clean energy in both countries.
Baharin stated that both PLN and TNB will benefit from the sharing of their expertise and experiences in tackling the energy transition challenges.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the handing over of the LOI. He was in Indonesia for a two-day trip that ended on January 9, 2023.
Baharin also gave another LOI to PLN transmission planning director, to review a previously signed memorandum to discuss the possibility of collaborating on a responsible energy transition in accordance with both major energy corporations’ sustainability commitments.
He stated that both TNB and PLN would mutually benefit from the sharing of their expertise and experiences in facing energy transition challenges.
He also stated that the Asean Power Grid includes the interconnection between Sumatera as well as Peninsular Malaysia.
Baharin stated that countries within the Asean region would be able to exchange renewable energy generation resources, participate in multilateral power trade, and provide energy security for their region once the project is complete.
