Schneider Electric, the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, and Singaporeโs leading clean energy solutions provider, EDPR Sunseap, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost access to cleaner, affordable, and more reliable solar energy in Singapore.
Under the partnership, the two companies will identify and collaborate on initiatives that leverage on both companiesโ industry-leading expertise and innovation in sustainability and decarbonisation, as well as Schneider Electricโs expertise in microgrid controller solutions and EDPR Sunseapโs proven capabilities in developing, deploying, operating and maintaining renewable energy generation systems. Schneider Electric will also be EDPR Sunseapโs key technological partner for microgrid solutions for its portfolio of solar energy projects.
Schneider Electricโs Cluster President for Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei, Yoon Young Kimย said, โWe are excited to extend our collaboration with EDPR Sunseap under this MOU, which will move us forward in realising our shared vision of an energy world that is decarbonised, digitised, and decentralised. Our combined technology and industry expertise will unlock new opportunities to accelerate the energy transition and contribute to Singaporeโs net-zero goals, while at the same time, providing businesses and Singaporeans with greater access to affordable and clean energy and build a more sustainable future for all.โ
EDPR Sunseapโs Executive Vice President for Client Solutions & Asset Operations (APAC), Filipa Ricciardi, said, โSchneider Electric has been a long-time and valued partner of EDPR Sunseap. This MOU with Schneider Electric further strengthens our partnership and commitment to be a global leader in the energy transition, working with like-minded partners. Our business is guided by our philosophy and belief in clean energy, innovation, and sustainability โ these values are exemplified through our MOU with Schneider Electric. We look forward to realising EDPR Sunseapโs mission of Changing Tomorrow Now.โ
The MOU builds on the successful partnership between the two companies on EDPR Sunseapโs ongoing project to modernize the energy grid on Pulau Ubin island, as part of goals to power up to 90 percent of the offshore island through solar energy by 2023. Schneider Electric is providing the microgrid controller solution to improve the efficiency and reliability of the system.
Microgrids are self-containing electrical networks which integrate on-site energy sources such as solar, allowing hosts to generate electricity on-site and use it as and when needed, independent of the status of the estateโs utility grid. Organizations of all kinds are turning towards microgrids and distributed energy resources for financial and sustainability benefits.
