Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented a Rs 45,949.21 crore budget with record allocation of Rs 22,646.73 crore for capital expenditure.
The civic budget gave a push to solar power projects. It mentions that a solar power plant has been proposed by the civic body at Gorai dump site, which was shut down in 2009. According to plans, the plant’s green energy will be used for electric vehicle charging stations. A world-class convention center with a panoramic view over Gorai bay is also being considered.
According to the budget, Using this green power internally, setting up battery charging stations to provide fuel for e-vehicles/buses and setting up a world-class convention center with a panoramic view over Gorai bay in a remaining area are all things being considered.
Experts in energy said that it was a wise decision. The open space will allow for the installation of solar panels that generate green energy. This will fuel BEST’s e-buses. Experts claim that it will make our buses run on clean energy.
Also, the budget 2023-24 provides Rs 90 lakh for rooftop Solar on BMC premises. BMC’s P-South Ward is constructing a 25KW rooftop solar plant at Goregaon (west), to supplement its office power requirements.
