The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, which include the management of solar PV modules, panels, and cells.
The rules state that every manufacturer and producer of solar photo-voltaic modules or panels or cells must register on the portal, store the waste generated until the year 2034-2035, file annual returns on the portal, and ensure that the processing of waste is done according to the applicable rules or guidelines.
Additionally, they must put an inventory of solar photo-voltaic modules or panels or cells distinctly on the portal and comply with the standard operating procedure and guidelines laid down by the Central Pollution Control Board.
Furthermore, the rules mandate that the recycler of solar photo-voltaic modules or panels or cells recover materials as per the guidelines laid down by the Central Pollution Control Board. Union Minister of Renewable Energy & Power, Sh. R.K. Singh, gave this information in the Rajya Sabha.
The aim of these rules is to ensure proper management and recycling of e-waste, including solar PV modules, panels, and cells, to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable development.
