The Rajasthan State Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) has recommended that Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) be designated as the nodal agency for renewable energy projects in the state. Currently, the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RREC) is responsible for all activities related to renewable energy generation in the state. However, RVUNL is in the process of developing a 810 MW solar power project at Pugal in Bikaner District and has signed an MoU with Coal India Limited to set up another 1190 MW capacity project.
The Commission is of the view that if RVUNL is designated as the nodal agency for the solar projects being implemented by them, the projects will be implemented in a timely and efficient manner at a faster pace. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has designated CPSUs such as SECI, NTPC, IREDA, and NHPC as implementing agencies for the development of renewable energy projects, and they are reaping several benefits by way of earning trading margins.
The Commission, in pursuance of its functions assigned under Section 86(2) read with Section 86(1)(e) of the Electricity Act, 2003, strongly advises the state government to designate RVUNL as the nodal agency for renewable energy projects being developed by them in the state. This move is expected to expedite the implementation of renewable energy projects in the state, contributing to the state’s efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix.
