Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the Saudi Minister of Energy, and Ziyad Ali Fadel, the Iraqi Minister for Electricity, met to discuss developments in the electrical connection project between the two nations.
The project of electrical interconnection reflects the continued cooperation between Iraqi and Saudi Arabia in a way that achieves the aspirations and leadership of both countries.
The project will improve the reliability of the electrical networks of both countries and reduce costs. It will also increase the use of renewable energy, as well as attract optimal investment in electricity generation projects.
The two ministers discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in the area of renewable energy. They also discussed the benefits of ACWA Power’s capabilities and expertise in this field and their contributions to future projects in Iraq.
The meeting discussed Saudi Arabia’s pioneering experiences in the field of smart meters and possible ways of transferring this technology to Iraq. It also addressed opportunities for Saudi Arabian and Iraqi companies participating as contractors and manufacturers in developing smart meters.
The Saudi Minister reviewed the financial reforms and regulatory reforms that the Saudi electricity sector has undergone in the last three years and discussed the possibility of an exchange of experiences between the two nations in this area.
