Pertamina Group, one of Indonesia’s leading energy companies, has set its sights on achieving net zero emissions by no later than 2060 for scopes 1 and 2. To realize this ambitious target, Pertamina is implementing two key strategic initiatives: decarbonizing its existing operations and venturing into new environmentally-friendly businesses.
Among the primary means of decarbonization is the transition from fossil-based electricity to renewable energy. Pertamina NRE (New and Renewable Energy) is playing a crucial role in this endeavor, spearheading the installation of Photovoltaic Solar Power Plants (PLTS) in Pertamina Group’s operational areas and offices.
“Pertamina NRE serves as the driving force behind the energy transition within the Pertamina group. Our core focus on developing green energy significantly contributes to Pertamina’s decarbonization efforts, particularly in the domain of green energy-based electricity supply,” stated Dicky Septriadi, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE.
Thanks to Pertamina’s unwavering commitment to emission reduction, the installed capacity of internal PLTS has seen a remarkable surge, reaching 28.6 MWp by the end of 2022, a staggering 267% increase from the previous year. This progress has led to a reduction of approximately 7,316 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions, marking a 38% decrease compared to the previous year.
Notably, Pertamina has successfully deployed PLTS across more than 20 points within its Group, encompassing upstream oil and gas operations, refineries, fuel terminals, LPG terminals, DPPU, offices, and housing. Moreover, Pertamina NRE has actively supported decarbonization initiatives at gas stations, installing Rooftop PLTS in 332 Pertamina stations, with a total capacity of around 1.7 MWp.
In addition to its decarbonization endeavors, Pertamina NRE is at the forefront of initiatives to build new businesses contributing to achieving the net zero emission target by 2060. This includes developing battery ecosystems and electric vehicles, clean hydrogen technologies, and carbon capture businesses. Pertamina NRE is deeply committed to accelerating Indonesia’s energy transition and upholding responsible practices through robust implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
“We are dedicated to expediting the adoption of green energy and driving the energy transition, not just for Pertamina, but for the entire nation of Indonesia,” emphasized Dicky Septriadi. With Pertamina NRE leading the way, Pertamina Group is poised to make significant strides towards a sustainable and cleaner energy future.
