PT PGN Tbk, as Subholding Gas Pertamina, and PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (Pertamina NRE), as Subholding Power & Renewable Energy, have joined forces to explore the potential of developing a low-carbon and renewable energy business, focusing on green hydrogen and ammonia (liquid hydrogen) as well as biomethane.
The collaboration between PGN and Pertamina NRE was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The agreement will serve as the foundation for communication, discussion, and study, paving the way for effective cooperation.
The partnership aims to include the development of various low-carbon energy ventures, such as Low-Carbon Hydrogen Business, Low-Carbon Ammonia, Biomethane, Solar Power Plants (PLTS), Low-Carbon Gas/LNG to Power Business, Renewable Energy Business, and Carbon Credit Trading. By focusing on environmentally friendly energy initiatives, this collaboration will play a significant role in achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target, bolstering the position of Pertamina Group’s Subholding in the energy transition.
Arief Setiawan Handoko, President and Director of PGN, expressed enthusiasm for this low-carbon business collaboration. Both PGN and Pertamina NRE have committed to conducting various studies and feasibility assessments, covering technical, technological, market, economic, business, environmental, legal, risk, and other aspects related to project implementation.
PGN also recognizes the attractiveness of new renewable energies like biomethane, ammonia, and hydrogen in the long term. These green energy investments provide investors with Carbon Credits due to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with PPI’s focus on carbon credits collaboration.
Arief reaffirms PGN’s commitment to achieving domestic energy independence by strengthening the gas supply and expanding gas infrastructure, especially during the energy transition period to NZE. The company’s strategic plan includes business diversification efforts in environmentally friendly energy sources to ensure sustainable growth and contribute to a greener future.
