Lightsource bp, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, has been recognized as the No. 2 utility-scale solar developer in the United States for the second consecutive year, according to Solar Power World’s recently published 2023 Top Solar Developers list.
The highly regarded Top Solar Developers list, compiled annually by Solar Power World, showcases the remarkable contributions made by companies in advancing solar installations across the USA. It ranks solar firms based on the total number of kilowatts installed in the preceding year, encompassing utility, commercial, and residential markets. Lightsource bp’s outstanding performance secured the company’s No. 2 spot in the USA.
In 2022 alone, Lightsource bp’s dedicated team in the USA brought an impressive 622 megawatts of solar projects into commercial operation, setting the benchmark for this year’s top solar developer ranking. These projects collectively generate enough clean energy to power over 100,000 U.S. households, contributing significantly to the country’s shift towards cleaner electricity sources.
Kelsey Misbrener, the managing editor of Solar Power World, emphasized the crucial role of renewable energy in the USA’s energy landscape, stating, “Renewable energy accounts for a quarter of U.S. electrical generation, now far exceeding electricity produced by burning coal. Solar power is an important member of that renewable makeup, and companies on the Top Solar Contractors List are all contributing to our country’s shift to cleaner electricity.”
Kevin Christy, Head of Innovation & Operational Excellence, Americas at Lightsource bp dedicated Lightsource bp’s remarkable success to its exceptional team. He commented, “Hands down, the key to our success has been our people. I joined the team six years ago to help launch Lightsource’s U.S. business. In those days, we were a few people working around a table in San Francisco. Now we are almost 300 strong across America, with four offices and a sizeable remote workforce, part of a broader team of a thousand Lightsource bp professionals around the world.”
Kevin continued, “Since the early days, our collective passion to take solar nationwide to help tackle the climate crisis, along with our team spirit, has fueled our success. Thanks to the team’s dedication and diverse expertise, Lightsource bp has made its mark as a leader in America’s utility-scale solar market in a relatively short amount of time. We have developed over 3.2 gigawatts of solar projects that are now in operation or construction across the U.S. and we’ve raised more than $4.2 billion in financing to advance our U.S. project portfolio. Our current pipeline of projects in development exceeds 20 gigawatts across 30 states.”
