Chennai Metro Rail Limited Advances Green Initiative: Invites Bids for 5.74 MW Rooftop Solar Installation

In a notable move towards sustainable urban development, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has initiated a tender process for the installation of rooftop solar projects with a combined capacity of 5.74 megawatts (MW). These projects are slated for implementation across the Phase 1 and Phase 1 Extension zones of CMRL’s metro network within the city.

The scope of work entails the comprehensive design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, storage, civil work, erection of suitable structures, testing, and commissioning of a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project with a capacity of 5.74 megawatts peak (MWp). Additionally, the selected bidder will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project for a span of 25 years in the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. The installation will be situated at various stations and sites of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, encompassing Phase 1 and Phase 1 Extension.

Bidders are required to submit a Bid Security Amount (EMD) equivalent to INR 25,00,000/- (Indian Rupees Twenty-Five Lakhs Only) through NEFT, RTGS, or e-Bank Guarantee, valid for 208 days. The completion period for the project is set at 18 months from the date of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Applicants need to provide a non-refundable Bid Submission Fee of INR 32,000/- (Rupees Thirty-Two Thousand only) including GST, payable via NEFT, RTGS, or Demand Draft. The deadline for Bid Submission is scheduled for September 11, 2023, up to 15:00 hrs, followed by the opening of the Technical Bid on September 12, 2023, at 15:00 hrs. This initiative by CMRL underscores its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions, aligning with India’s push towards renewable energy adoption.

The development of rooftop solar plants within the metro infrastructure will not only contribute to reducing carbon footprint but also set a noteworthy precedent for other urban transit systems. The project is estimated to be valued at INR 25 Cr. excluding GST, signifying a significant investment in clean energy advancement.
