The agreement, signed during the fourth Algerian-German Energy Day event, brings together Algeria’s state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, and German gas firm VNG AG.

The planned plant is expected to have a 50 MW production capacity and will explore opportunities for hydrogen and green ammonia projects, with an initial focus on feasibility studies across the hydrogen value chain.

The project aims to produce 50 MW of electricity from solar energy and leverage Germany’s expertise in renewable energy.

Recently, Algeria has received 73 bids, both domestic and international, for 15 solar power projects with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW).
