In a significant development in the Indian power transmission sector, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, hereinafter referred to as POWERGRID has successfully acquired Beawar Dausa Transmission Limited (BDTL) under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. This acquisition, completed on October 30, 2023, is a critical milestone in the establishment of a robust transmission system for evacuating power from the Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in Rajasthan, with a capacity of 20 GW. The project, known as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part H,” will significantly contribute to the region’s energy infrastructure.

The project’s scope involves the establishment of a state-of-the-art 765/400kV substation, strategically located near Dausa, along with the development of 400kV and 765kV Double Circuit (D/C) Transmission Lines crisscrossing the state of Rajasthan. These transmission lines and associated bay extension works are instrumental in facilitating the efficient and reliable evacuation of power from the REZ to meet the increasing energy demands of the region.

BDTL’s acquisition by POWERGRID follows the successful bid in a Tariff Competitive Bidding process. The requisite approvals for the transfer of BDTL were obtained by the Bid Process Coordinator, and further approvals, such as the Grant of Transmission License and Adoption of Transmission Charges, will be pursued with the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission by BDTL after the acquisition by POWERGRID.

The acquisition, valued at approximately ₹21.37 Crores, includes the transfer of 10,000 equity shares at a par value of ₹10 each, along with the assets and liabilities of BDTL as of the acquisition date, October 30, 2023. It is worth noting that the acquisition price is subject to potential adjustments in line with the audited accounts of the company as of the acquisition date.

This strategic acquisition by POWERGRID not only enhances its presence in the critical field of power transmission but also marks a significant step towards strengthening the power infrastructure in the state of Rajasthan and supporting the growth of renewable energy in the region. It reflects POWERGRID’s commitment to advancing India’s energy sector while contributing to the nation’s sustainable energy goals.
