President Jokowi Inaugurates 192 MW Floating Solar Power Plant, Emphasizes Commitment To Green Energy In Indonesia

President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 192 megawatt peak (MWp) in Purwakarta Regency, West Java Province. The President emphasized that the PLTS primarily serves the green energy industry’s demands, as there is a significant desire for premium products derived from green energy. President Jokowi expressed continuous support for the consistent development of new renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia, encompassing solar power, hydropower, geothermal, and wind power. He emphasized the importance of pursuing these initiatives systematically for optimal results. Acknowledging foreign interest in investing in EBT development, the President highlighted the preference for a phased approach, completing projects one at a time to ensure effective implementation and potential expansion.

Philippines’ GSIS Invests P1.45 Billion In Alternergy For Renewable Energy Expansion

State-backed Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has invested P1.45 billion in Alternergy Holdings Corp., a renowned renewable power player. GSIS, as the foundational investor, aims to support Alternergy in advancing its wind, solar, and hydropower projects. Wick Veloso, GSIS president, emphasized the commitment to building a robust infrastructure investment portfolio in renewable energy, aligning with the Philippines’ National Renewable Energy Program. Vicente Perez Jr., Alternergy chairman, expressed gratitude for GSIS’s support, noting that it will accelerate the company’s rollout of wind, solar, and run-of-river projects. Alternergy recently had an IPO, and GSIS’s investment will enhance its equity base for sustainable nation-building initiatives.

Indonesia’s Marubeni Global Indonesia To Build $9B Solar Plants, Supplying 600MW To Singapore

An Indonesian renewable energy firm is set to commence the construction of solar power plants valued at $9 billion (equivalent to S$12.3 billion) on an island near Batam starting in 2024. Their goal is to supply Singapore with low-carbon electricity by 2027. In an agreement signed on October 23, Marubeni Global Indonesia (MGI) committed to delivering 600 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Tuas Power, Singapore’s top power generation company. Tuas Power intends to submit a proposal to Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) by the end of November to import this electricity, which will be sufficient to power approximately 730,000 households. The first phase of construction is scheduled to commence in March 2024 on Galang Island, located south of Batam and part of the Riau Islands province.

Black & Veatch Takes Steps to Boost Green Hydrogen Production in Indonesia

In a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions, Black & Veatch, a renowned global leader in critical infrastructure solutions, has completed a comprehensive feasibility study for Augustus Global Investment (AGI) on the prospective generation of green hydrogen in Indonesia. The ambitious project aims to utilize electrolyzers powered by grid-supplied renewable energy for hydrogen production. Black & Veatch’s study includes a detailed plant configuration and technology analysis, along with order-of-magnitude cost estimates for hydrogen generation and storage. The findings of the study suggest that the project holds both technical and economic feasibility, highlighting its potential to play a pivotal role in Indonesia’s ongoing energy transition.

Leyte, Philippines, Completes PHP70 Million Solar Power Project For Capitol Complex

The Leyte provincial government has successfully finished a PHP70 million solar power project aimed at supplying energy to the new capitol complex. The official activation of the solar power system is scheduled for November 11, following five months of installation. Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla expressed the intention to not only power the capitol but also educate people about solar power and encourage widespread adoption. The solar power setup consists of 500-kilowatt (kW) batteries and 420-kW solar panels placed in the provincial government complex’s parking spaces. Despite this, the complex remains connected to the local electric cooperative for additional energy supply. The project is expected to lead to significant savings, reducing the provincial capital’s monthly electric bills by PHP500,000.

ADB Approves $12 Million Loan For Buskowitz Solar’s Philippines Rooftop Solar Project

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $12 million loan to support Buskowitz Solar Inc. in the development of solar rooftop projects in the Philippines. This funding, authorized on October 27, will aid in the construction and operation of photovoltaic power systems on the rooftops of commercial and industrial buildings, with a total capacity of up to 70 megawatts. Buskowitz Solar, established as a special-purpose vehicle by Buskowitz Energy Inc., will be responsible for owning, building, and operating these solar rooftop projects. Buskowitz Energy provides engineering, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance services for solar rooftop systems in the country.
