Sabah’s electricity generation capacity is set to enhance with the imminent operation of two additional Large Scale Solar (LSS) Plants in Labuan.

Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, CEO of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), reported that the nearly completed LSS plants, each with a 10MWac capacity, will contribute to stabilizing power supplies in the Sabah grid, particularly during peak daytime demand.

One LSS plant, a collaboration between Jetama Energy Sdn Bhd and Symbior Solar under Solar PV Power Sdn Bhd, is expected to be operational by December 2023.

Another 5MWac LSS plant by Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) is scheduled to start operations in February 2024. These developments align with Sabah’s commitment to green and renewable energy.

The LSS plants were part of the LSS1 and LSS2 schemes, with contracts awarded in August 2021, and the remaining seven plants are expected to be commissioned by June 2024.
