The Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy and Power, Shri R. K. Singh, shared details about the government’s robust initiatives to boost solar energy adoption across the country. Launched in January 2010, the National Solar Mission (NSM) has been a pivotal platform introducing various schemes to promote solar energy development.

Presently, the focus is on encouraging solar energy usage at the domestic level through multiple schemes. Under the Solar Park Scheme, the government aims to establish a minimum of 50 Solar Parks, targeting an impressive 40,000 MW of solar power projects. Another noteworthy initiative is the Scheme for setting up 12,000 MW of Grid-Connected Solar PV Power Projects by government producers, supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF). The Installation of Grid-Connected Solar Rooftop Power Plants and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) are additional programs aimed at facilitating solar energy integration.

Furthermore, the Production-linked incentive scheme under the “National Programme on high efficiency Solar PV Modules” and the Green Energy Corridor Scheme for Intra-State Transmission System underscore the government’s commitment to sustainable energy practices. In the realm of residential solar projects, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has been executing Phase II of the Roof Top Solar (RTS) Programme since August 2019. Central Financial Assistance (CFA) is provided for residential households and associations, with specific CFA amounts allocated based on project capacities.
