Alternergy Holdings Corp.’s subsidiary, Liberty Solar Energy Corp. (LSEC), has secured an operating contract from the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Apulid Solar Project in Paniqui, Tarlac.
The contract grants LSEC exclusive rights to explore, develop, and operate solar energy resources within the 144-hectare project, set to be co-located within a working aquaculture farm.
Vicente S. Perez, the Alternergy chairman and LSEC president, highlighted the project’s uniqueness as one of the Philippines’ first solar aqua voltaic initiatives.
The Apulid Solar Power Project aims to serve the dual purpose of supplying clean power to the grid and sustaining aquaculture farm production.
The project, a winning bid under the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA 2) program, will not pursue GEA 2 as an offtake mechanism, as Alternergy explores other potential markets aligning with the government’s renewable energy targets.
