Masen, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, continues to make strides in the development of the Noor Midelt complex, following the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In a move to accelerate the growth of renewable energy projects, Masen today disclosed the pre-qualified consortiums and companies selected for the next phase of the Noor Midelt III solar project. Launched in the summer of 2023, the selection process is aimed at identifying the private partner responsible for designing, financing, constructing, operating, and maintaining the third power plant within the Noor Midelt solar complex, named “Noor Midelt III.”
The upcoming Noor Midelt III solar power plant is projected to boast an installed photovoltaic capacity of approximately 400 MW, complemented by a battery storage capacity of about 400 MWh using Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This innovative technological blend is expected to significantly contribute to the widespread integration of renewable energies, addressing the peak demand needs of the National electrical system.
Structured as a Project Finance initiative, Noor Midelt III will foster increased involvement from the Moroccan and international private sectors in developing renewable energy infrastructure. Additionally, it will draw wider participation from commercial banks, both Moroccan and international, in securing the necessary financing.
The Noor Midelt complex, with its trio of power plants – Noor Midelt I, Noor Midelt II, and the upcoming Noor Midelt III, is poised to become a global leader in solar and renewable energy storage capacity. With an anticipated total installed capacity of around 1600 MW, the complex represents a substantial opportunity for sustainable socio-economic development in the region.
The pre-qualified entities for the Noor Midelt III Project include:
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar (United Arab Emirates) / TAQA MOROCCO S.A (Morocco)
- Acciona Generacion Renovable S.A. (Spain) / Green Of Africa (Morocco)
- ACWA Power Company (Saudi Arabia) / NAREVA Holding (Morocco)
